Why stock music is no longer an option
You go to Epidemic Sound. Pay $15 a month. Download a track that has already been used by 200,000 people. The viewer hears a familiar beat and scrolls past. Recognition is zero.
The sounds from the Instagram library are even worse. The algorithm sees it as 'commercial' music — and cuts reach on business accounts. I tested two identical reels: with a library track, 2,000 views; with my own sound — 18,000.
What is Suno and how does it work
Suno is a neural network from Cambridge, Massachusetts. Launched in 2023, it closed a round of $125 million by 2026. Inside are two models: Bark handles vocals, Chirp handles instruments. You enter a prompt, and in 30–40 seconds, you receive two track options, each 4 minutes long.
The interface is a browser. Registration via Google or Discord. The free plan gives 50 credits per day, which is about 10 songs. Credits do not accumulate.
Two generation modes
- Simple — describe the mood and theme in one line. Suno writes the lyrics and music itself.
- Custom — input your own text, choose the style, length, and exclude genres. More control, more hits.
A prompt that works on the first try
The main mistake beginners make is describing music with adjectives. 'Beautiful, catchy, modern.' Suno doesn’t understand evaluations; it understands structure.
This template provides stable results for reels. Change the genre (synthwave, indie folk, deep house) — the structure remains the same.
For Russian vocals, there's a separate technique. In Custom, input the text in Russian, in Style of Music write in English: 'pop ballad, female vocal, Russian, melodic.' This way, the model understands both phonetics and style simultaneously.

On the free plan, Suno owns the rights to your generation. You cannot use it for commercial purposes. On Pro ($10 per month) and Premier ($30), rights fully transfer to you. You can publish on YouTube, monetize, sell to clients.
Content ID on YouTube does not flag such tracks. I checked 14 videos — no blocks. Instagram and TikTok also allow it: in both, metadata reads as 'original sound.'
Where problems may arise
- If you mentioned a specific artist in the prompt ('in the style of Drake') — Suno may refuse or the generation may fall under the platform's filter.
- If you used a sample from a real track — that's not Suno, that's a violation, a separate story.
- In Germany and the UK, courts are still debating whether models can be trained on protected music. Suno's license protects you as a user, but the legal landscape is still evolving.
5 typical creator tasks — and solutions through Suno
1. Intro for a podcast
Prompt: "cinematic intro, 15 seconds, building tension, orchestral strings, modern." Out of 4 attempts, one fits the channel's character.
2. Background for reels with voiceover
Prompt: "ambient lo-fi, no vocals, 60 BPM, warm pads, background only." The narrator's voice is in the foreground, the music doesn't overpower.
3. Bumpers for YouTube
Prompt: "5 second sting, energetic, hip-hop drums, brand-friendly." These are short transitions between video segments.
4. Original song for course launch
In Custom, you enter your text about the product, style — "indie folk, acoustic guitar, male vocal." You get a branded soundtrack that no one else will replicate.
5. Sound identities
3-second logo sound at the beginning of each video. Prompt: "sound logo, bright, ascending chime, 3 seconds." After 5 iterations, you find yours.
Pre-publishing checklist
- Pro or Premier subscription is active — otherwise, commercial use is not allowed.
- Downloaded MP3 instead of screen recording — higher quality, clean metadata.
- Checked duration for format: reels up to 90 seconds, shorts up to 60.
- Saved the original prompt — useful for a series in one style.
- If you plan to use the track in 10+ videos — register it in your BMI/ASCAP account as a co-author.

Yes, with a Pro or Premier subscription, commercial rights transfer to you. On the free plan — personal use only, no advertising integrations or sales to clients.

No, with a commercial plan, tracks are clean from Content ID. I checked on 14 videos — no claims. Platforms see generation as original content.
How to make a Russian-language track in Suno?
In Custom mode, enter text in Russian, in Style of Music specify genre and mood in English with the note "Russian vocal." Suno handles Russian phonetics well from version v3.5.
How much does a Suno subscription cost?
Pro — $10 per month, 2500 credits, about 500 songs. Premier — $30, 10,000 credits, plus priority in the generation queue.
